In Buddhism, The Four Immeasurables – Brahmavihara - are states without opposites. As we meditate on each one, we experience a different flavor of peace.
10/5: Overview – we dip into each immeasurable, and experience their relationships to one another.

10/12: Kindness – Metta – is recognizing and reflecting happiness in others and in ourselves.

10/26: Compassion – Karuna – is feeling with – and acting, when appropriate – the sorrows of others and ourselves.

11/2: Joy – Mudita – is experiencing delight in the order of the universe, and sharing that with those who are expressing that goodness in their actions.

11/9: Equanimity – Upekkha – we experience the truth of what is happening around us – positive or negative – from a centered place of detachment founded upon our experiences of Metta, Karuna, and Mudita.

Class Format
20 minutes – short talk and discussion, setting of a personal intention (optional and private)
15 minutes – simple movement (mostly seated) for relaxation and quieting of the mind
30 minutes – meditation on the immeasurable of the evening. Participants can be seated or lying down. Facilitator will combine periods of silence, short guided body-centered suggestions, and live music (tone drums, chant, and gong).
10 minutes – transition back to “ordinary reality.”*
15 minutes – questions and sharing.*
*Some participants may prefer to stay in their own silence. All have the option of simply leaving the meeting once the meditation is over .
Resources
Each meditation will be recorded, so that participants may meditate with the mantra and guidance during the week.
Suggested donation for the course is $60. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. All proceeds go directly to support the Monadnock Mindfulness Practice Center.
